Rotary D9815 Youth Program - MUNA 2024

The Rotary District 9815 MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) is happening in the Auditorium at Lyndale Secondary College, Dandenong North on Saturday 17 August, starting with the Flag Procession at 9.00am. The preferred school entry is via Halton Road which will be clearly identified.

Guest speaker, Gabrielle Williams, State MP Dandenong, is the Minister for Government Services, Consumer Affairs, and Public & Active transport. She will address delegates on topics relating to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Humanitarian Issues.

Twenty-eight delegations representing UN-member states are participating in Rotary MUNA 2024. During the day, they will debate four resolutions. Each resolution will be debated for 75 mins. Topics to be debated are:

10:30am - 1. The situation in the South China Sea 

11:45- 12:05pm - Morning Tea Break

12:05pm - 2. Strengthening the role of the UN in the promotion of democratisation and enhancing periodic and genuine elections

1:20-2:05pm - Lunch Break

2:05pm - 3. Preventing and combatting crimes that affect the environment

3:20- 3:40pm - Afternoon Tea Break

3:40pm - 4. State of global food security

5:30pm - Presentations

6:00-6:30pm - BBQ Smorgasbord Dinner 

Rotarians are very welcome to come and watch MUNA and/or attend the presentation of Prizes and Awards scheduled for 5:30pm. A BBQ Smorgasbord dinner will follow. All visitors will be asked to pay a $15 cover charge for dinner with cold drinks available for purchase. No credit card facilities are available. Please note, we will provide morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea for delegates (students participating in MUNA), supporting teachers, and MUNA committee, Rotaractor volunteers, and RYLA volunteers involved with the event. There is limited food available to purchase. Tea and coffee will be available for visitors in the school canteen area. Plans are underway to have a coffee van onsite.

MUNA is a wonderful, enriching Youth program for students in Years 10-11 who gain insights regarding international and humanitarian issues that impact globally. They have an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the workings of the United Nations Assembly and the UN countries they represent in a model setting.
